Joel Finkelstein
Son of Howard S. Finkelstein, founder of Finkelstein & Partners, Joel has been successfully representing clients in personal injury cases for over three decades. Joel was raised in Newburgh, graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, Franklin & Marshall College, and Boston University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Joel spent almost a decade as a defense lawyer for a large, national insurance company. Defending personal injury actions sharpened Joel’s skills as a trial lawyer. This rare experience on “the other side” helped him become a great advocate for his personal injury clients. He is uniquely qualified to represent plaintiffs in court and also specializes in negotiating and securing large financial settlements before trial.
Joel is known for volunteering throughout Orange County. He speaks frequently to high school assemblies advising teens about the dangers of distracted and drunk driving. He has also headed many blood donation drives. Joel has served as a judge and mentor in the New York State high school moot court competition, and as an advisor for the Goshen High School moot court team. He has coached and refereed CYO and AAU basketball and youth.
Joel has had numerous successful jury verdicts in state and federal courts throughout New York and New Jersey. He has participated in countless mediations and binding arbitrations, ensuring that his injured clients are compensated fairly and quickly. Joel was also the founder of the first certified continuing legal education program in Orange County. In addition to being admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Massachusetts, he became a certified civil trial attorney in New Jersey. The New Jersey Supreme Court grants this designation to the most skilled, educated, and knowledgeable lawyers. Only two percent of all active attorneys in New Jersey have met the stringent list of rigorous criteria.
